Session breakdown
Every session starts with the four universal firearm safety rules. You will learn how to hold, load, and unload a pistol before touching a single round. Marcus walks through each step hands-on — no slides, no lecture hall. By the time you step onto the range, safe handling is already becoming second nature.
Stance, grip, sight alignment, and trigger control — the four pillars of accurate shooting. You practice each one with an unloaded pistol first so your body learns the positions without the distraction of recoil. Dry-fire repetitions build the muscle memory that makes live rounds feel natural, not overwhelming.
You fire 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition on a private range lane. Marcus coaches every round — adjusting your grip between shots, calling out sight corrections in real time, and building your confidence with each magazine. Most students group their shots consistently by the second magazine. You keep your target as proof of progress.
Just yourself and a valid ID (must be 18+). DTA provides the pistol (9mm), all 30 rounds of ammunition, eye protection, ear protection, and the target. Wear a crew-neck or high-collar shirt and closed-toe shoes — hot brass ejects to the right and you want skin covered. No prior firearms experience or personal equipment needed.
You leave knowing how to safely handle a pistol, load and unload it, and put rounds on target. Most students book a follow-up within the week — either another First-Time Shooter session to reinforce fundamentals, or a step up to Private Coaching for personalized skill development. The first session gives you a foundation. Everything after builds on it.
