What to expect

What does the women-only shooting class include?

Women only — no exceptions

A space where you can ask any question, at any pace, without judgment.

Max 6 students

Small class size means real attention from the instructor — not a group lecture.

All gear provided

Pistol, ammo, eye & ear protection. Bring yourself. Everything else is here.

Live-fire included

Not a classroom course. You will shoot real rounds and leave with real experience.

Same fundamentals

Same content as the First-Time Shooter course — just the right environment for it.

20-year Navy instructor

Marcus Darling has trained hundreds of first-timers. You're in capable hands.

How the class works

What does a typical Heels & Holsters session look like?

Introductions and safety overview (first 15 minutes)

The group meets in a private classroom area. Marcus introduces himself, explains the four firearm safety rules, and walks everyone through the pistol they will use. Questions are encouraged from the start — there is no such thing as a dumb question in this room. Every student handles an unloaded pistol before moving to the range.

Stance, grip, and dry-fire practice (next 20 minutes)

With a maximum of six students split across two range lanes, there is room for individual attention. Marcus demonstrates proper shooting stance and grip, then works with each student one at a time. You practice trigger pulls with an unloaded pistol until the motion feels controlled and deliberate — not rushed.

Live-fire range time (final 45–55 minutes)

Each student fires 30 rounds of 9mm on her own target. Marcus rotates between lanes, coaching grip adjustments, calling out sight corrections, and keeping the pace comfortable. Nobody is rushed. Nobody is compared. The goal is personal progress — and most students are grouping shots on the silhouette by the second magazine.

What to wear and bring

Bring a valid ID (18+ required) and wear closed-toe shoes with a crew-neck or high-collar top — spent brass ejects to the right and can land on exposed skin. All gear is provided: pistol, ammunition, eye and ear protection, and targets. You do not need to own a firearm or bring any equipment.

After class

You take your target home. Many students sign up for a second Heels & Holsters session to solidify what they learned, or transition into Private Coaching for deeper one-on-one skill building. The class runs twice monthly in Kennesaw — follow DTA on Instagram for upcoming dates.

“Heels & Holsters was incredible. No judgment, all women, and the instructor was patient and thorough. Already signed up again.”
